Hello Maverick,
As we all know, the newly updated LLB curriculum at Osmania University requires us to submit a detailed internship diary at the end of every year. This is now a mandatory requirement.
To help you with this, I’ve prepared a guide based on a simple method. You will need to download 2 documents I have attached below: my actual written internship diary and the “Reference Document” that contains points for what you can write.
Our Diary Index
| Part | Topic | Pages |
| Part-1 | Introduction ( Total 3 pages, see my actual diary) | 2 |
| Part-2 | 21 Days Observation Report (1 page for each day) | 6 |
| Part-3 | Final Report / Your Experience ( Total 3 pages- half page for side heading) | 48 |
A Quick Tips Before We Start: It is highly recommended to print the Reference Document. It is much easier to write from printed pages than to look at a laptop screen.
If you have yet to know your advocate name and other details, then keep a blank space whenever we need to write your advocate name so that we can fill it in later time.
Our plan is simple, you first download both the documents then go through my actual internship diary and check how I wrote it. later see how the other document with many points is there.
Remember we will write one side of the record only, see the YouTube video at the end of this write-up if you want to have a look.
And then For example for each side heading in the big document we will have some 5-6 lines, no need to write all those points, you choose 2-3 lines only. All lines under that side heading are mostly independent so choose any 2-3 lines and write in your diary, this way our dairies won’t look identical.
If you have any doubts see and check how I wrote it in my original diary to clear it. if you are unable to understand, you can message me but before messaging me read everything I said here carefully 2 times then you will automatically understand yourself.
Part 1- Format for Introduction
| Topic | No of Pages |
| Importance of Internships in Legal Education | 1 Full Page ( Pick any lines from referance meterial) |
| Objectives of the 21-Day Internship | Half Page ( Pick any lines from reference material) |
| Internship Provider Details | Half Page ( Pick any lines from reference material) |
| Your Expectations and Learning Goals | Half Page ( Pick any lines from reference material) |
Part 2: The 21-Day Observation Report
Here, we must use two techniques to ensure our diaries are unique: The “Pick and Mix” Method and The “Day Shuffle” Method. Just read everything once, if you do not understand, read a few more times then definitely you will understand. it’s a simple method to follow so as not to make our records look the same.
Technique 1: The “Pick and Mix” Method
Let’s use the first day’s topic, “Office & Case File Management,” as an example.
Your Diary Entry for the Day:
1. Work Observed and Legal Documents Handled
- From the “Work Observed” list in the Reference Document, pick any two points.
- From the “Legal Documents Handled” list, pick any one point.
2. Interactions or Guidance Received
- From this list in the Reference Document, pick any three points.
3. Reflections and Learning Outcomes
- From this list in the Reference Document, pick any three points.
By following this, your entry is complete and unique. You will apply this same “Pick and Mix” strategy for all 21 daily entries.
Technique 2: The “Day Shuffle” Method
This is a clever way to make our diaries even more distinct. While the first and last day’s activities might be the same for everyone (e.g., Introduction to the office, Final summary), you should jumble the order of the other days.
For example, the topic listed for Day 4 in the Reference Document could become your Day 2 entry. The topic for Day 5 could become your Day 9 entry, and so on. This ensures that our daily experiences do not appear to be identical.
Part -3 Final Report
We have 6 side headings, write each side heading on half a page, choose any side headings from reference material and fill in that half-page
An Important Note from Me to You
Please read this carefully. I have developed this method by examining previous internship diaries and getting guidance from seniors. It is designed to help you, especially if you have no other guidance and are unsure how to start.
However, please remember there is no single “right” or “wrong” way to write an internship diary, as it is a personal account of your unique experience. If you have your own method for writing the diary, you should absolutely follow it. This guide is offered as a helpful option, not as a strict rule. I am sharing my experience to help you out, so please use this as a foundation to build your own work.
All the best for your preparation.
Required Signatures and Forms at the end of Internship
To complete your internship requirements, you need to get your supervising lawyer’s signature on two separate documents. Please follow these instructions carefully. When your lawyer gives the signature, make sure to mention his enrollment number when required, from that number only university will know he has 10 years of experience, so be careful about getting his enrollment number.
Part 1: Your Internship Diary
- Inside your internship record book, find the page titled “Rating of Intern.”
- You must ask your supervising lawyer to fill out this page and sign it in the designated space.
Part 2: The Internship Completion Certificate
This is a formal document proving you completed your internship.
Requirement: You need two (2) original copies of this certificate.
Format: Each copy must be printed on your supervising lawyer’s official letterhead ( If they do not have any letterhead, just take the printout of certificate I gave in attachments by entering the lawyer’s details like his enrollment number and full address)
How to Obtain the Certificate:
There are two ways this can be done:
- Your Lawyer Provides the Certificate: Many lawyers and law firms have a standard template they use for all their interns. They will likely take a previous certificate, edit it with your name and details, and give it to you.
- You Download Formatted document I have given below: If your lawyer does not have a standard format, you must use the template document I have given below. and download it, and get it printed on lawyers letterhead, if he does not have any of those letterheads, it is okay just download the attached document and follow this.
- Step 1: Edit the template with your personal details (your name, internship dates, etc.).
- Step 2: Give the edited document to your lawyer.
- Step 3: Your lawyer will then print it on their official letterhead and sign it for you.
Final Checklist for the Certificate:
Before you leave your lawyer’s office, make sure each of your two certificate copies includes all of the following:
- [ ] Printed on the lawyer’s official letterhead.
- [ ] Your full name and correct internship dates.
- [ ] The lawyer’s signature.
- [ ] The lawyer’s official stamp or seal.
- [ ] The lawyer’s full name and Bar Council enrollment number clearly mentioned.
